Systems and services designed to enable Trusts to exert real control over their asset base and asset-related processes

Leaseguard has a novel approach to asset management and we are working with them to see how their systems could help us achieve a step-change in the way we manage assets and their related processes.

Procurement solutions that deliver savings against established benchmarks across a range of procurements, from beds replacement to energy procurement.

Leaseguard approached this beds project with a different perspective, and showed us how we could save over £150k in maintenance costs alone. As well as delivering savings, our contracts are now better suited to meet our clinical needs

Our objective is simple. To deliver solutions that help NHS Trusts drive down costs and enhance visibility and control over asset related spend. Our strategy to achieve this is equally straightforward. We recruit the very best commercial talent we can find. We train them to deliver the highest possible level of service. And we support their work by developing the very best systems available in this sector.

Managing every aspect of asset-related finance.

For the NHS, leasing is a critical financing tool. It is also complex and requires careful management to minimise costs and risk.

Over the last 20 years, Leaseguard has become the acknowledged expert in NHS leasing. We are retained by more than 50 NHS Trusts to manage all aspects of the leasing process; from advice on structuring and how best to optimise spend, through full lease procurement, to ongoing and active management of a Trust’s portfolio of leases. We currently manage over 3,500 NHS leases on equipment valued in excess of £400M, which gives us enormous leverage with lessors across the marketplace .

The service we deliver is based on a number of guiding principles:

  1. We only employ the best people. This is an area where experience and expertise is at a premium, and the benefit of the right people cannot be understated. We have over 150 years of leasing experience within our team, and our mandatory recruitment criteria are simple: experience, technical expertise, negotiation skills, commitment, communication skills, and a desire to work for the best leasing advisors anywhere in the UK.
  2. Its about more than day one cost. Pretty well anyone can tender for a lease and take the cheapest rental on standard terms. What Leaseguard has always understood is that very often this results in the most expensive solutions in the long term! Which is why every lease we procure is tailored to the particular requirements of the Trust, and why we invest so much time and effort in making sure that contract terms really protect the Trust as requirements change over the lease term .
  3. Driving decision making is key. A major problem at many Trusts is getting decisions made in a timely manner, and this has massive financial and operational consequences, as unnecessary costs are incurred and new technologies delayed. The whole way we address portfolio management - both through the approach our consultants take and the way this is supported and through our OPTIMiSe systems - is geared to driving effective and timely decisions.
  4. Trust’s need more. Our guess is that virtually no Trust would specify a service as embracing as that delivered by Leaseguard. We think it important, however, to deliver the service that experience tells us Trusts really need. Which is why our consultants spend so much time with our clients – talking through deal structures, advising on how best to allocate scarce budgets, dealing with auditors (and fighting on our clients' behalf), providing formal training, and being prepared to look at all aspects of a situation (rather than just the lease) to ensure that the Trust gets the very best overall deal .
  5. Innovation is vital. There is a view that leasing can be reduced to a standard contract and the lowest price; this is not a view we share. For almost 20 years working in the NHS Leaseguard has pioneered virtually all of the innovations that have delivered real benefit to Trusts: extension capping, structured deals for long terms assets, proactive lease management systems, capital/revenue planning methodology. Our aim is to add value – not just manage a process.

Lease Management

From the outset Leaseguard have proved that they bring strong technical and commercial expertise to this complex area. What has been equally impressive, however, is the level of support and commitment they have provided throughout the leasing process. .
